Kenneth Braswell

With over 22 years of community development experience, Braswell serves as the Executive Director of Fathers incorporated (FI) (www.fathersincorporated.com). Since 2004, the agency’s main focus has been on the development of support and services for fathers. FI is a not-for-profit organization and serves as the leader in the promotion of Responsible Fatherhood and Mentoring. Currently, Braswell is the Director of the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC). The NRFC is a widely recognized national and international resource for fathers, practitioners, researchers and policymakers. Its components include www.fatherhood.gov, media campaign, products, national fatherhood hotline and the President Obama’s Responsible Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative.

Braswell served as a consultant for ICF International (www.icfi.com). In his role at ICF, Braswell worked with the Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood Technical Assistance Project; TANF Faith Collaboration Initiative and the Family Assistance Training and Technical Assistance Project.

As a result of his life’s experience, Braswell is also a national motivational speaker, lecturer, presenter and trainer. In this work he speaks to youth and adults in motivating them to be hopeful about life. Currently Braswell is the author of When The Tear Won’t Fall, and a workbook, Gentle Warriors. He is the host of “Dads Eye View,” a Timewarner cable access television program aimed at parenting from a father’s perspective. Braswell has been featured/mentioned in Essence, The Crisis, Gospel Today, Capital Region Parent Pages, BSI International’s IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®, Philadelphia Inquirer, Times Union and various other media forums.

Fathers Incorporated has launched a cause marketing campaign entitled “Ties Never Broken,” whose mission is to highlight responsible fatherhood and mentoring. Inspired by President Obama, the campaign is designed to increase the efforts of serving and supporting responsible fathers, the campaign uses the icon of a Blue Bow Tie (lapel pin) as the symbol of responsible men.
Braswell is a board member of several organizations, which includes the Unified Progress International Education (UPI Education) and the National Fatherhood Leaders Group. In the past he has served on both the Albany NAACP and Capital District YMCA boards. Mr. Braswell has served as the vice-president of the Urban League of Northeastern New York, spent over 15 years as radio broadcaster and 10 years as a newspaper publisher. He has received numerous awards and recognition since he began his community service in 1990. This past October, Braswell was the recipient of EBONY magazine’s MANifest Honors for Black Male Achievement Award in partnership with The Campaign for Black Male Achievement (Open Society Foundations) in recognition of his outstanding work to inform and uplift Black boys and men each and every day. Most recently, he also served as the moderator at Bishop T.D. Jakes 2012 ManPower Conference’s culminating panel in Dallas TX, entitled: “RealTalk” along with panelists Gospel artist Kirk Franklin, public figure Kwame Kilpatrick and Gospel artist Wess Morgan. He also officiated the Ties Never Broken Blue Bowtie pinning ceremony to the more than 8,400+ men at the event, a rite of passage signifying fathers never loosing ties with their children.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Braswell is the father of four beautiful children; uncle, grandfather; and husband to beautiful wife, Tracy. From 2006-2011, Braswell was the Director of the New York State Fatherhood Initiative (www.dads.ny.gov) where he managed over $11 million in programs, a $1 million comprehensive evaluation and the NYS Noncustodial Earned Income Tax Credit.
